Surface Preparation

Abrasive blasting to Sa 21/2 Swedish Standards is the best method of surface preparation. In case blasting is not possible, then the surface of steel should be manually cleaned with brass wire brush, coarse emery paper, scraper, etc to remove rust, dust, loose old coating, oil, grease, and other foreign contaminants. It is preferable to give a solvent wipe after surface preparation. The surface should be absolutely dry, moisture and oil free before primer application or Phosphated components by 7-tank pretreatment process of surface preparation.

Application Data

MIXING RATIO : Base : Hardener (As per our recommendation)
APPLICATION : By Brush / By Conventional Spray
THINNER : Thinner 290
POT LIFE : 3 hours min at 30° C
RECOMMENDED DFT : 30-40 µ.
OVERCOATING INTERVAL : MIN : 8 hours MAX :24 hours (if it exceeds, the surface should be roughened by emery scuffing grade 320)
COMPATIBILITY : Can be top coated with Epoxy, Polyurethane, Chlorinated rubber and Alkyd finish coatings.

Application Method

Stir the Base part thoroughly. Mix the base and hardener as per our recommended ratio, by volume. Stir the mix gently to attain homogeneity. Add Thinner Type 290 into the mix, if required, depending on application method, and stir gently for few minutes. Allow the mixture to stand still (maturation) for about 10-15 minutes to initiate the reaction. Strain the paint through Nylon filter cloth of 200 mesh size and apply uniformly over the surface. All equipments used for above should be properly clean.

Application :- By Brush / By Conventional Spray / By Airless Spray

Generally no thinner is required for Brush application, however under adverse environmental conditions about 5% of thinner, by volume, can be added. Apply evenly in crossed manner and ensuring the uniform application. Use quality brushes for paint application.

For Conventional Spray application :-

Thinner : Type 290
Addition : 10-15%
Nozzle Orifice : 1.2 -1.4 mm
Nozzle Pressure : 40-70 p.s.i.

Addition : 10-15%
Addition : Max 5%
Nozzle Orifice : 0.28- 0.37 mm
Nozzle Pressure : 1400-1800 p.s.i.

Notes

1. Do not apply paint when temperature falls below 10°C or rises above 50°C, when Relative Humidity is above 85% & during rain, fog, or mist. Do not apply on hot surface (above 50°C). Surface temperature must always be minimum of 3°C above Dew point.

2. Brushes and spray equipment should be cleaned with SAFFRO's recommended thinner otherwise equipment is liable to be damaged.

3. DFT variation can be obtained by change in application method / thinning ratio.

4. Shelf life indicated is minimum, for this Product in sealed conditions and it is subject to re-inspection thereafter. Individual component is required to be stored in cool, dry and covered condition, away from heat and ignition.

Health & Safety

This is a solvent based paint and care should be taken to avoid inhalation of spray mist or vapour as well as contact between the wet paint and exposed skin or eyes.

151 EPOXY TANK SHIELD FOOD GRADE

Description

Two component, air drying, high solids, Epoxy coating. The product has the advantage of epoxy resin composition with speciality pigment, which facilitates one-coat, high build application for high performance. The product can be applied on minimum prepared surface and is designed to completely wet the substrate. Excellent adhesion is obtained on a variety of intact surfaces including over old coating and tightly adherent rust. The composition has been balanced to a convenient mixing ratio by volume with excellent application characteristics. The ZERO solvent content reduces the problem of lifting of the paint film and adhesion failure by blistering and pin holing. This assures a stable long term performance.

Recommended Use :-

It is mainly recommended in those areas where blasting is impractical or impossible. Uses include steel structures in Industrial plants, bridges, tank exteriors, oil tanks, pipes, marine atmosphere, cooling towers, etc. It has good resistance to spillage and fumes of acids, alkalis, fresh and salt water. Recommended as a primer on suitably cleaned mild steel surface in various Fertilizer units, Refineries, Chemical and other plants, Transportation industries, steel plants, cement plants, power plants, pulp and paper industries, pharmaceutical industries, water tank, pipelines etc. for application on tank exteriors and interiors, structural steel, pipelines, machineries, vessels, etc.
